The Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC) have funded a project that will translate the research carried out in previously funded work into high-impact, business-ready solutions. We are looking for a research fellow to work very closely with a local Southampton company for 6 months to embed this research into their organisation.
Joining a vibrant research team, you will assist with implementing methodology and knowledge transfer in the area of optimisation. Based on a good understanding of the underlying research, you will help to shape the solutions to real, practical problems, involving two-way communication between the university research team and the external organisation.
You will become a member of CORMSIS (Centre for Operational Research, Management Sciences and Information Systems) at the University of Southampton, one of the largest and strongest groups of OR/MS/IS researchers in Europe, providing great opportunities for dissemination and expert advice. CORMSIS specialises in optimization, simulation and applications of OR and has a weekly seminar series, social activities and a visitor programme, which all members of the team are active participants in. The size of the group, and the diversity of the research being undertaken, makes it an ideal environment for research assistants to develop in.
You will have or be close to completing a PhD degree and have experience of computer programming. Experience of Java programming is desirable. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills are required, and an ability to manage your own time, tasks and responsibilities.
Applications for Research Fellow positions will be considered from candidates who are working towards or nearing completion of a relevant PhD qualification. The title of Research Fellow will be applied upon successful completion of the PhD. Prior to the qualification being awarded the title of Senior Research Assistant will be given.
