Person Specification
  • Understanding and/or practical experience in operating an STM or AFM, preferably in electrochemical environments
  • Practical experience and/or knowledge in performing electrodeposition and other surface modification methods.
  • Experience in elctrochemical characterisation of molecules in solution and on surfaces, including but not limited to pulse voltametry and impedance spectroscopy
  • Experience in instrumentation development/electronics or instrumentation control
  • Ability to conduct a detailed review of recent literature
  • Ability to develop and apply new concepts
  • Creative approach to problem-solving
  • Excellent verbal communication skills and the ability to deal with a wide range of people
  • Excellent written communication skills and the ability to write clearly and succinctly for publication
  • Ability to draft competitive research proposals for funding
  • Ability to direct the work of a small research team and motivate others to produce a high standard of work
  • Ability to organise own work with minimal supervision
  • Ability to prioritise own work in response to deadlines
  • Advanced computer skills, including for instrument control (e.g., LabView) and coding (Matlab or similar)

 

Job Description

Funding was awarded by the Leverhulme Trust for a 3-year post at the postdoctoral level (PDRA, postdoctoral research associate), in the area of magnetic field-dependent electrochemistry and electrocatalysis.

Implementation of proposed research project, as specified/justified in the proposal.

Research Duties

  • To develop methodology for magnetic field-dependent electrochemical measurements and electrocatalysis.
  • To perform electrochemical measurements and surface modification on monolayers and sub-monolayers of suitable target molecules, as well as electrodeposition.
  • To plan and carry out research in accordance with the project aims
  • To take initiatives in the planning of research
  • To direct the work of small research teams
  • To identify and develop suitable techniques and apparatus for the collection/analysis of data
  • To conduct data analysis
  • To ensure the validity and reliability of data at all times
  • To maintain accurate and complete records of all findings
  • To write reports for submission to research sponsors
