Call for a PhD researcher

“ONEIDA - Omics Network to Prevent and Control Infectious Diseases and Antimicrobial Resistance”

In accordance with the Decree-Law nº 57/2016 of 29 August, with the amendment introduced by Law 57/2017 of 19 July, Instituto de Tecnologia Química e Biológica António Xavier (ITQB-NOVA) opens a call for a PhD Researcher in the field of Mass Spectrometry, in the scope of the project nº 016417 ONEIDA (Omics Network to Prevent and Control Infectious Diseases and Antimicrobial Resistance) financed by Fundos Europeus Estruturais e de Investimento (FEEI)

Work plan:

The project aims to develop and implement Mass Spectrometry methodologies for the metabolomics analysis of host-microbe interactions. More information regarding ONEIDA project is available at www.itqb.unl.pt/oneida.

The selected candidate will be integrated in a team within the ITQB NOVA/iBET Mass Spectrometry Unit (UniMS). The candidate will be responsible for liaising with several research groups from ITQB NOVA, IMM and IGC and will contribute to different scientific projects.

 

Academic qualifications: 

Ph.D. in Chemistry, Biochemistry, Biology or related areas

 

Scientific Area: 

Biological Sciences/Mass Spectrometry

 

Required skills and competencies:

  • Excellent planning and organizational skills;
  • Excellent communication skills;
  • Resilience, critical spirit and ability to work autonomously;
  • Independence and ability to work as part of a multidisciplinary team/Motivation to work in a multidisciplinary team;
  • Proficient use of English.

 

Preference will be given preference to candidates with:

  • Experience with chromatographic techniques;
  • Experience with Mass spectrometry techniques, in particular with ESI-MS;
  • High motivation to work on the development and implementation of mass spectrometry methodologies for metabolomic analysis in host-microorganism interactions.

 

Remuneration:

PhD researcher, salary index to the Single Salary Table (TRU) level 33, approved by Decreto-Regulamentar nº 11-A/2017, 29 November. The contract is predicted to start in April 2018.

Employment contract for an uncertain term (according to the article 18, paragraph b), and paragraph 1 and 3 of article 6, DL No. 57/2016, of August 29, amended by Law No. 57/2017, of July 19), with a maximum duration of 21 months.

Selection criteria: Evaluation of application (Curriculum vitae suitability of a profile based on skills and competences, and motivation letter) - 90%; Interview (10%).
