Job Details

The Quantum Engineering Technology Labs (QET Labs) group is seeking a Technical Specialist to join its expanding professional team. This is a technical role which will be based in the School of Physics and the post holder will be expected to contribute specialist knowledge to further research, deliver technologies and inform the planning and operation of QET Labs facilities. The Technical Specialist will provide expertise directly to group members investigating complex concepts and work with other technical staff at the University to solve research challenges.

The successful candidate will ideally have experience of working in industry or an academic research environment. Experience of budget management, reporting and negotiating with vendors is an advantage. Experience of working in teams specialising in technology development, and the ability to organise and plan long term programmes are essential.

By its nature, the research work conducted within QET Labs evolves at a rapid pace and so too the skills and expertise of the QET Labs staff. As a member of the professional technical team you will be expected to maintain familiarity with cutting-edge technological trends, tools and techniques. Working with your line manager you will identify areas where augmenting your skills, expertise and qualifications will assist the group in its aims and outcomes. This may take the form of short courses, coordinating visits to or from manufacturers or suppliers, or undertaking training in pursuit of professional qualifications or certificates.

This is an exciting opportunity to take on a role which will have a positive impact in developing the technician support within the School of Physics. Informal enquiries about the role can be addressed to Bob Wiltshire (Research Technical Manager, School of Physics) - R.Wiltshire@bristol.ac.uk

The University is committed to creating and sustaining a fully inclusive culture.  We welcome applicants from all backgrounds and communities.
