Job Details
The incumbent will be responsible for:
- Co-ordinating and managing Geography Education;
- Teaching Geography Education at undergraduate and postgraduate level;
- Undertaking teaching practice;
- Conducting scholarly research.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
Lecturer:
- A master's degree in Geography Education;
- Current registration with SACE;
- Minimum of one DHET accredited publication;
- Experience in teaching Geography at school level;
- Evidence of research publications in Geography Education;
- Experience of course/module development;
- Involvement in community engagement in related field.
Senior Lecturer:
- A PhD in Geography Education;
- Current registration with SACE;
- Minimum of three accredited publications (ideally more, preferably in last three years and in ISI journals);
- At least two Master's students supervised;
- Three years' experience in teaching Geography at school level;
- Evidence of research publications in Geography Education;
- Experience of course/module development;
- Involvement in community engagement in related field.
REQUIRED COMPETENCIES (SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND BEHAVIOURAL ATTRIBUTES):
- Transformational in outlook;
- Student-centred in approach.
ADDED ADVANTAGES AND PREFERENCES:
- Working knowledge of GIS;
- Working knowledge of the position of Geography in Social Science;
- Experience in hybrid teaching and learning;
- Three to five years' teaching experience in higher education.
The annual remuneration package will be commensurate with the incumbent's level of appointment, as determined by UP policy guidelines. UP subscribes to the BESTMED and UMVUZO medical aid schemes and contributes 50% of the applicable monthly premium.
