Job Details

Role with the University of Bristol Students' Union.

We are looking for someone with the skills and passion to help our members understand, respond to and influence the policies that impact their lives, from the University to national government.  You will work closely with student representatives to find out more about the issues they are trying to tackle and use your policy expertise to help them understand how they can lobby for change.  You will open their eyes to new policy developments that might affect them and their peers, and give them tools to influence these policies in the interest of students.  You will also work closely with our research team to ensure evidence is at the heart of the policies we develop.

Hours: 35 per week (full time)

Salary: £21,971 - £24,734 per annum

Contract: permanent

Part business, part charity, part membership body - Bristol SU is a seriously fun place to work.  Our professional staff do something extraordinary every day: we support student leaders to give people a voice in their education, help people get the most out of their student experience and help people make the change they want in the world. We have over 22,000 members, 300 clubs and societies, a huge range of professional services, and a bold strategy to inspire pride in the Union.

  • You're passionate about helping students to tackle the issues facing them while at University.
  • You'll have insight and expertise in some of the major issues that affect the student experience, from wellbeing to equality and diversity.
  • You'll have experience of working with policy, lobbying or campaigning for change.
  • You'll have experience with quantitative and qualitative research methods and an understanding of how these can support evidence-led policy making.
  • You'll be an excellent communicator, with a particular strength for persuasive writing.
  • You'll be able to analyse multiple sources of information, understand complex issues and distil these into accessible briefings and coherent arguments.

We offer the flexibility for work-life balance, a competitive salary for the non-profit sector, a generous pension scheme and excellent holiday allowance. We're open to considering requests for part-time working. We provide professional training so that whatever your chosen field of work, with the right mix of challenge and support, you'll gain fantastic experience, and room to develop and advance your career.

We're committed to equality of opportunity for all. We welcome applications from individuals regardless of their race, ethnicity, sexual orientation, religion, age, gender, or disability status. We want to support diverse and inclusive work environments and are actively looking for people who share our values.
