Job Details

Deadline for submission: September 30, 2018.

The Laboratory of Enzymology and Molecular Biology of Microorganisms (LEBIMO) is located at the Institute of Biology of the State University of Campinas -- UNICAMP (https://www.facebook.com/lebimo/).

Goals

Enzymes produced by fungi have a great potential for industrial applications, from detergents to liquid fuels. To meet industrial demand, large volumes of enzymes are needed. At LEBIMO we have used molecular biology tools to generate genetically modified fungal strains with the aim of increasing the production of enzymes. In addition, we apply protein engineering techniques to understand how exactly these enzymes work. Finally, we are interested in understanding the potential effect of chemical compounds that interfere with epigenetic changes in fungal infection by Aspergillus fumigatus.
LEBIMO is looking for students who are eligible for a Level 3-Technical Training Scholarship who, under supervision, are interested in learning techniques of molecular biology for deletion of genes in filamentous fungi, biosafety rules, sterilization of general material or cell culture, cataloging reagents, vectors and mutant strains.

One position is available. Those selected will integrate a multidisciplinary team committed to achieving the project objectives and will support projects in progress.

Tasks

  • Preparation of solutions;
  • Identify samples, store and aliquot;
  • Routine, maintenance and cleaning of the work area;
  • Preparation of training for the use of equipment;
  • Deletion of genes in Aspergillus;
  • Fundamental molecular biology techniques;
  • Collaboration with other multidisciplinary teams of the laboratory.

Some other task associated with the project may be required.

Expected qualifications

  • Undergraduate completed or about to be concluded;
  • Basic knowledge of biochemistry, molecular biology and microbiological concepts (pH, concentration calculations, DNA / RNA concepts);
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel and PowerPoint);
  • Ability to work as part of a team;
  • Commitment, organization, precision and maintenance of the data record;
  • Communication in English;
  • Prior experience in a research laboratory;
  • Experience with preparation of solutions.
