Science Officer (Grade 8)

The purpose of the Science Officer will be to assist the Director in leading the development, implementation and monitoring of the ACI's research agenda and fulfilling its mandate. The

sought-after candidate must possess a breadth of scientific interest and the ability to think critically about a wide range of scientific issues, must be highly motivated and creative, and be

able to work both independently and as part of a team.

Administration:

  • Providing high quality administrative support on ACI projects;
  • Acting as a central information source by maintaining and distributing project details, attending to contractual agreements, contact details and funder information;
  • Assisting in project administration processes by collating, collecting and producing records, documentation and reports needed by funders, project managers and internal and external stakeholders;
  • Peer review process management;
  • Administering and managing grants application processes linked to the call for research proposals.
  • Research Writing:
  • Drafting proposals and grant application narratives and high-quality scientific documents for publications, including the Annual Report of the ACI;
  • Editing and proofreading grant proposals, scientific manuscripts for peer review, protocols and other scientific documents.

 

Website updating and maintenance:

  • Uploading written articles to the ACI website;
  • Managing ACI's information profile;
  • Maintaining and updating ACI's research database.

 

Project Management:

  • Conducting calls for proposals when necessary;
  • Managing the grants awarding process by incorporating monitoring and evaluation mechanisms;
  • Collating information for the ACI's annual report;
  • Ensuring that the ACI's research agenda is implemented and sustained.

  • A mininum Master's level qualification, with a minimum of five years' experience in life sciences;
  • Experience in scientific writing, preferably in a healthcare or research environment;
  • Experience in project management;
  • Advanced computer literacy;
  • Skills in project management, presentation, networking, as well as good interpersonal and written and verbal communication skills.

  • Demonstrated experience in project management within an academic environment or any other institution within the National System of Innovation;
  • Willingness to travel for meetings out of office;
  • Willingness to work extra hours, if necessary;
  • A valid driver's licence.
