MRC Unit on Risk and Resilience in Mental Disorders

Technical Assistant (Grade 14.2)

(Ref: TGB09/250/0818)

(Full-Time Contract post for a one-year period)

  • The recruitment and screening of participants for research studies,
  • Handling of incoming telephone calls (e.g. screening of study participants), e-mail and other enquiries,
  • Collecting and sending information requested by patients and clinicians,
  • Data entry and database management,
  • The statistical analysis of data,
  • The writing of study protocols,
  • The writing and publication of scientific peer reviewed manuscripts,
  • Poster/oral presentations at local and international conferences,
  • Communication liaison between co-investigators, nurses, research assistants, administrators, patients/participants of the studies, radiographers, clinicians, and media,
  • Administration of IQ test (WASI); computer tasks during fMRI scanning; CANTAB and E-prime tasks during behavioural testing,
  • Designing and managing web-based e-Survey,
  • Assisting the Director of the Mental Health Information Centre with call centre,
  • Website design and management (knowledge of WordPress software).

  • An Honors or Master's degree (in Psychology) or an equivalent qualification;
  • Knowledge or experience with research in the field of obsessive-compulsive disorder, hair- pulling disorder, and anxiety disorders,
  • A good spoken and written command of Afrikaans and English,
  • A valid driver's license,
  • Expert knowledge or experience using SPSS and/or Excel, and using pc software such as MATLAB, Presentation and EPRIME.

  • Experience in writing and publication of scientific peer reviewed manuscripts;
  • Knowledge or experience with designing and managing websites using WordPress web software;
  • Knowledge or experience with administering the Wechsler Abbreviated Scale of Intelligence,
  • Knowledge or experience in data management,
  • Familiar with Stellenbosch University plagiarism policy,
  • Knowledge or experience with Stellenbosch e-survey software.
