Job Details
In collaboration with industrial partners, you will source initial data-sets of pile performance data. You will perform sophisticated geo-statistical analyses of these large datasets and compare the results with current design practice. Development of a user-friendly web portal will be essential to the dissemination of the database for use by the geotechnical design community. You will also have the opportunity to collaborate with researchers studying theoretical aspects of pile behaviour which will be compared with the results of the database analysis.
This project falls under the umbrella of the UK Collaboratorium for Research in Infrastructure and Cities - Soil Foundation Structure Interaction (UKCRIC-SOFSI) initiatives and also aligns well with the improvement and further refinement of existing design standards. The project will also seek to examine the potential for foundation re-use in UK construction.
You will have at least a first degree and a PhD (or one that is close to completion) in Civil Engineering, Geology, Environmental Science, Geographical Sciences or Physical Sciences (or closely related disciplines) and have good experience of geostatistical analysis and database building. Geotechnical design experience would also be desirable.
This post is offered on a full time, fixed term contract with funding up to end December 2018.
The successful candidate needs to be able to start the job within 5 weeks from date of job offer.
Informal enquiries can be made to: Dr Paul J. Vardanega, p.j.vardanega@bristol.ac.uk
