Research Fellow in
Division of Psychological Medicine and Clinical Neurosciences
Cardiff University School of Medicine
College of Biomedical and Life Sciences

This is an exciting opportunity to join the Division of Psychological Medicine and Clinical Neurosciences at Cardiff University's School of Medicine. The Division hosts both the MRC Centre for Neuropsychiatric Genetics and Genomics (CNGG) and the Neuroscience and Mental Health Research Institute (NMHRI).  The CNGG is the largest psychiatric genetics group in the UK and is Wales' first MRC Centre, bringing together world-leading researchers to investigate the major causes of psychiatric disorders. Our use of clinical, genomic, statistical and bioinformatic expertise to tackle the challenges posed by psychiatric disorders across the full lifespan is unique and has been recognised by the award of a Queen's Anniversary Prize for Higher Education. The NMHRI's  mission is to drive the development of new research areas aimed at translating the fundamental discoveries made by Cardiff neuroscientists and geneticists in the major psychiatric and neurodegenerative disorders into a greater understanding of disease mechanisms, diagnosis, treatment and prevention.

Based at the University's flagship Hadyn Ellis Building, you will join a successful team working on the MENTAL HEALTH DATA PATHFINDER project. Providing high-level support and oversight to the project you will lead on the amalgamation, linkage and analysis of complex genetic and phenotypic data sets.  You will have proven experience in psychiatric genetics and genomics , including analysis of common and rare genetic variation and/or demonstrable knowledge and proficiency and experience within the area of mental health informatics, including analysis of routinely collected health data and data linkage.
It is envisaged that this role will lead our strategy in crossover genomics and health informatics in the future.

We are advertising for two roles (Research Fellow Grade 7 and Lecturer - Teaching and Research Grade 6/7) and only one appointment will be made. If you are appointed to this role as a Research Fellow and do not hold a relevant teaching qualification then you will be expected to undertake Cardiff University's 'Academic Practice for Early Career Staff Programme' or equivalent teaching qualification.
Having been ranked 2nd in the UK's REF2014 in Psychology, Psychiatry and Neuroscience, we are committed to building on our existing world-leading research and striving for future, ground-breaking successes. Should you wish to discuss how your skills and experience can help us achieve our aims, please contact Professor James Walters: waltersjt@cardiff.ac.uk or +44 (0)29 2068 8434.

This post is full time (35 hours per week), available immediately and is open-ended.

Salary: £41,212 - £47,722 per annum (Grade 7)
