Job Details
The Research Center CoaST
The activities in CoaST cover coating technologies from raw materials, over formulation, test and characterization to production and application. In the broad perspective, the center will support development, production and use of high performance coatings with improved sustainability profiles over the lifetime of the coating. Areas of research are anticorrosive coatings for steel structures, blade coatings for wind turbines, intumescent coatings for passive fire protection, antifouling coatings for ships, insulation coatings for heat loss reduction, coatings for the cement- and mineral industries, and coatings for oil- and gas pipelines at high temperature and high pressure.
Responsibilities and tasks
An intumescent coating is a coating that can prolong the structural life of steel in a case of fire. For the development and evaluation of intumescent coatings, it is important to develop reliable and fast testing methods to evaluate the performance of the coatings. This project has a strong focus on hydrocarbon type intumescent coatings for oil rigs.
The objective is to develop novel testing methods for hydrocarbon intumescent coatings through experimental work in advanced high-temperature reactors and model development. In addition, detailed chemical and microscopic analyses of the chars formed are essential for mapping of the complex intumescent coating mechanisms.
Qualifications
Candidates should have a PhD in chemical engineering and coatings, preferably with acquired skills in advanced micro- and macroscopic techniques. It is a requirement that scientific manuscripts in peer-reviewed journals have been prepared and preferably published as part of the candidate's PhD study.
Approval and Enrolment
The scholarship for the postdoc degree is subject to academic approval.
