Lab Support Technician

• To support the Lab Manager in ensuring all laboratory facilities within the designated area function at an optimal level.
• Assist in the reporting of and monitoring resolution for any failures of the infrastructure supporting the laboratory facilities in a designated area. Liaise closely with the Lab Manager to achieve a robust and effective resolution of such matters.
• Dealing with lab general housekeeping and maintenance issues.
• Manage storage of equipment and consumables and space within the laboratories.
• Maintaining records of equipment and consumable usage and arranging recharging as appropriate.
• Organizing access to laboratories.
• When required prepare and update standard operating procedures.
• Ordering general consumable items for the labs.
• Ordering gas cylinders, managing inventory of cylinders and regulators and arranging deliveries and collections .
• Provide a service/facility for overseeing purchase orders for research groups based in the area as required and work with College finance staff to streamline procedures.
• Provide training in the use of instruments
• Undertake occasional work outside of the laboratory in support of field experiments

Job Purpose

The main focus of the role will be in supporting the Lab Manager in the day to day running of the Labs within the School of GEES.This will primarily be made up of operational duties encompassing Health and Safety, assistance in inspections, general maintenance, housekeeping and record keeping of equipment and facilities. In addition, some of these duties will be in the support of the EcoLab and adjacent areas that fall under GEES that will require a level of operational management. The post holder will also be responsible for providing a limited amount of direct research support, but this will be outlined by the Lab Manager.
