The post-holder is responsible for the day to day management and delivery of Learning and Engagement at the Barber, ensuring that the Barber retains and extends its reputation for excellence and innovation in this area. The post-holder will manage, develop and evaluate the Barber's formal and informal Learning and Engagement programmes in line with the Barber's mission, revised Audience Development Plan and prospective new Public Engagement Strategy. Managing a small team and larger cohort of freelance practitioners and volunteers, and working closely with curatorial and marketing colleagues, the post-holder will devise, plan, deliver and evaluate a wide of activities targeted at specific and general audiences. The post-holder will also contribute their professional expertise and advocacy for audience development and widening access to the Barber's strategic development plans. The post-holder is responsible for representing Learning and Engagement at groups and meetings held across the Barber, the University and the wider city/region. Essential
  • A degree in History of Art, Fine Art, or related subject.
  • Significant relevant experience in a museum or gallery environment with a track record of producing and managing high quality, creative and innovative Learning and Engagement programmes.
  • Strategic and up to date knowledge of the arts and cultural sector, particularly in relation to Learning and Engagement practice and issues.
  • Good knowledge of the National Curriculum and formal education provision in the UK, including special needs, social inclusion policies, FE/HE and alternative provision.
  • Understanding of health and safety legislation, risk assessment procedures, and child safeguarding
  • Experience of leading and developing a team, including working successfully with freelance practitioners and volunteers.
  • Ability to develop, draw on and contribute to appropriate professional networks.
  • Excellent organisational and administrative skills, showing attention to deadlines and detail and a commitment to managing budgets effectively.
  • High level of motivation to work towards and achieve predetermined goals within specific deadlines.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills to build effective relationships with colleagues and stakeholders.
  • Ability to work quickly and accurately under pressure and to use judgement to prioritise workload.
  • Creative, positive and innovative approach to problem solving.


Desirable

  • Post-graduate qualification in relevant subject and or teaching qualification.
