Details

The successful applicant will work with Prof Colin Greaves and colleagues to conduct a systematic review, explore methodological /design issues and implement a study to test an innovation in the context of real-world delivery of health care services. Several service delivery contexts are possible including a cardiac rehabilitation programme for people with heart failure (REACH-HF), an ongoing diabetes prevention intervention, or an ongoing service for promoting self-care in people with type 2 diabetes. The exact nature of the research will emerge over the course of the PhD, with input from the student as well as the supervisory team. Possible innovations include the addition of digital health components, self-care manuals, self-assessment tools, training enhancements, or other novel intervention techniques for treating depression, promoting physical activity, or supporting weight loss. A particular attraction of this work is the potential for the findings to translate directly into impact on real-world healthcare services. The programme of work may be guided by a framework for implementation research [1]
