About this Job:

The role is to provide computer based resistance risk assessments as part of regulatory dossiers for the submission and/or monitoring of traited products and insecticidal chemistry. Generate models to estimate the timing of insect resistance developing in a variety of geographical scenarios. Work with a team of biologists to discuss insights and work collaboratively to develop models to support resistance management concepts. Represent Syngenta as an expert on resistance risk analysis for insecticidal traits and chemistry. Work with Syngenta's network of modelers and biologists (cross-indication) to ensure Syngenta is in a credible and respected position with regards to the use of computer based resistance risk analysis. In addition, work closely with R&D business partners to support the development of strategic business decisions related to insect pest resistance through development of risk assessment scenarios (models) providing insights on trait and chemical technology durability.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

•             Evaluate and, if necessary, construct or modify computer based models to perform resistance risk analyses of insecticidal proteins and/or chemistries used as part of crop management strategies

•             Understand external capabilities specific to insect pest resistance modeling and collaborate effectively to utilize external knowledge, resource, and expertise to ensure a high level of competency

•             Coordinate with biologists and regulatory specialists to prepare resistance risk documents as part of a regulatory dossier for product registrations

•             In collaboration with biologists, conduct model based analyses to determine the impact of a range of different resistance management techniques on the evolution of insecticide resistance

•             Provide guidance to biologists on the generation of biological data (including pest epidemiology) to either support or validate resistance risk analyses

•             Liaise with internal and external modeling experts to ensure that latest techniques and applications are incorporated into Syngenta's toolbox as needed

•             Represent Syngenta in internal and external forums as a resistance modeling expert

•             Contribute knowledge and computer modeling insights into Syngenta global resistance management platforms

•             Provide business contribution / support / insights working with R&B business partners to assess risks of pest resistance development of technology offers

•             Evaluate and understand Syngenta's current activities and capabilities with regards to computer based resistance risk modeling and identify additional requirements

•             Based on needs, either modify existing models or construct new models to meet Syngenta's immediate needs for resistance risk assessments

•             Conduct prioritized resistance risk assessments as part of ongoing insecticidal trait registrations, providing written assessments as part of the biological dossier

•             Conduct prioritized resistance risk assessments for insecticide product use patterns as part of ongoing product research and development projects

•             Establish a working network with internal and external experts on computer based modeling techniques to ensure the best tools and practices are being utilized in order to meet Syngenta's needs

•             Team player with engaging and pro-active communication style

•             Ph.D. preferred with at least 2 years practical experience of working with PC based modeling techniques and biological systems

•             Experience of working with agriculturally related projects preferred

•             Demonstrated expertise in pest population modeling with application to resistance risk assessment preferred

•             Working understanding of systems utilized for modeling pest population dynamics
