Job Purpose

The postholder will work within a multidisciplinary research team, on a portfolio of research projects including a large scale international project entitled: Science and Religion: Exploring the Spectrum of Global Perspectives (funded by the Templeton Religion Trust). They will create and disseminate knowledge through initiating and conducting original research and through publication for a portfolio of multidisciplinary research projects which includes initially the large scale international Science and Religion: Exploring the Spectrum project. They will initiate and conduct original research which has measurable outcomes and is reflected in a growing national and international reputation. They will Plan, design and co-ordinate research activities and programmes, contribute to the development of research strategies, publish results of own research, supervise PhD students and contribute to the Department /School /Centre through management/leadership. They will develop and make substantial contributions to knowledge transfer, enterprise, business engagement, public engagement activities, widening participation, schools outreach or similar activities at Department/School/Centre level or further within the University.

The Fellow will be centrally involved in all aspects of the study including leading social psychological field research, project development and dissemination of findings in a variety of formats. The postholder will have a PhD in Social Psychology and experience research relating to the relationship between evolutionary science, religion and non-religion in society. A high level of analytical capability and proficiency in cross-sectional and experimental social psychology is required. Excellent planning and organisational skills and communication skills are vital.

 

Person Specification

The post holder will need

  • PhD in Social Psychology
  • MRes or master\xe2\x80\x99s in relevant discipline e.g. Religious Studies or similar
  • A relevant undergraduate degree, at a minimum of a 2:1 classification or equivalent is required.
  • Proven and extensive experience of undertaking research relating to the relationship between evolutionary science, religion and non-religion in society.
  • Experience of leading own research project(s) including international social psychology-based field site research
  • Good presentation skills and aptitude for public engagement.
  • Research staff and/or research project management experience.
  • Aptitude for and experience of international research collaboration.
  • Proficient in use of Qualtrics and SPSS research software.
  • Proficient in cross-sectional and experimental social psychology methods including priming methods and implicit measures.
  • Proficient in relevant data analysis techniques including: ANOVA regressions, mediation models, and social science survey data analysis.
  • Demonstrable experience of successful research funding pursuit at level of Co-I or PI.
  • Experience of working as part of a multi-disciplinary research project or team and managing/supervising multidisciplinary research
  • A growing international reputation in the field of science and religion in society
  • High level of analytical capability
  • Ability to communicate complex information clearly
  • Demonstrable experience of presenting and leading sessions at international research conferences
  • A strong understanding of the methodological implications arising from cross cultural research
  • Cultural sensitivity in research dissemination and communication
