The Institute
The Centre for Genomic Regulation (CRG) is an international biomedical research institute of excellence, based in Barcelona, Spain, with more than 400 scientists from 44 countries. The CRG shares principles of an interdisciplinary, motivated and creative scientific team that is supported by high-end and innovative technologies and a flexible and efficient administration.
CRG has been conferred with a badge of ‘HR Excellence in Research' by the European Commission, in recognition to its progress in implementing the European Charter for Researchers and the Code of Conduct for Recruitment of Researchers, that among others consists of transparent, merit-based recruitment procedures and attractive work-life balance working conditions.

The role
The Comparative Bioinformatics group headed by Cedric Notredame is seeking a Post-doc to work in the field of biological data analysis. Candidates should have a strong background in computational biology with hands-on experience in algorithmic implementation and high throughput data analysis. Mastering of at least one computational language (R, Python, Ruby, C, Java, etc…) is a mandatory prerequisite. Candidates are also expected to have had prior exposure to biological problems and to have an interest in biology as much as for the use of computational methods to address biological questions.
The exact topic may depend on the candidate interest but will have to be among the following: algorithmic development for sequence and structure multiple comparisons, phylogenetic reconstruction, comparative genomic analysis, single Cell RNAseq expression analysis, multiple time series comparison for Big Data behavioural analysis and IT methods for high throughput computational analysis.

About the lab
Notredame's lab is part of the Bioinformatics and Genomics program. It is a relatively small structure of 8-10 people comprising three permanent members working along with Postdocs, Ph.D. and Master students. We are mostly methodology oriented and have a strong track record at producing high visibility methods. Over the last years, these have included T-Coffee and Nextflow (www.tcoffee.org, www.nexflow.io).
We are a very international, collaborative and informal community in which everyone is encouraged to best fulfil their scientific potential in the most suitable way. This has so far been a successful strategy resulting in 6 completed PhDs, 76 publications and over 15.000 citations over the last 10 years. - http://www.crg.eu/en/cedric_notredame
We view it as a major achievement that a large majority of students and post docs having passed through the lab are still working in research related fields and holding permanent positions.

The Offer
Contract duration: 2 years with the possibility to renew
Estimated annual gross salary: Salary is commensurate with qualifications and consistent with our pay scales.
Target start date: Preferably November 2018
