Job Details

The role will mainly involve conducting statistical analyses and modelling of available data. The post-holder will also undertake comprehensive reviews of the literature and manage project-related activities through liaison with the South African teams engaged in primary data collection.

The post holder will primarily be responsible for planning, conducting and delivering high quality research aligned to the planned programme of research. He/she would need to be able to work overseas in rural South Africa for visits of up to 2-3 weeks, totalling about 6-8 weeks per year. The successful candidate will hold a national passport of a country that is exempt from visas for visits to South Africa of up to 90 days per annum (see http://www.dha.gov.za/index.php/immigration-services/exempt-countries). A full clean driving licence is highly desirable.

You will have a PhD or equivalent professional qualification and experience in Epidemiology, Demography, Medical/Social Statistics or a relevant quantitative social science discipline, and can demonstrate substantial experience conducting advanced statistical analysis including multilevel modelling and methods to analyse longitudinal population, panel or cohort data.  Previous experience of using Stata or R for statistical data analysis and modelling is also essential. You will possess excellent organisational, communication and computing skills, and must have experience of effectively working as part of a team.

Prior to the qualification being awarded the title of Senior Research Assistant will be given.
