The Institute of Energetic and Nuclear Research -- IPEN and the São Paulo Research Foundation -- FAPESP announce that inscriptions are open for a “Young Investigator” grant, as part of the FAPESP process entitled: "Scientific, Technological and Infrastructural Capacitation in Radiopharmacy and Radiations for Health” (#2017/50332-0), from the notice “Special Support to Research for Institutional Research Infrastructure” issued jointly by FAPESP and Sao Paulo's Department of Economic Development, Science, Technology and Innovation -- SDECTI/SP.  

The main goal of this announcement is to select a project coordinated by a researcher acting in the field of Neuroimmunomodulation, for the standardization of tumor models for tests with radiopharmaceuticals at the Center of Biotechnology of the Institute of Energetic and Nuclear Research-IPEN, based in the state of São Paulo, Brazil.

The already approved grant will receive monthly resources for 24 (twenty four) months, aiming to provide support for the development of the research project which will be accompanied by a financial support approved along with the project.

The “young Investigator” research fellow shall conduct the research focusing the specific area of this announcement, in addition to other regular activities such as seminar presentations, elaboration and publication of scientific papers besides other forms of dissemination of the research outcomes. For the publications, high impact factor journals should be chosen and the data should also be presented in seminars.

It is up to the IPEN's Center of Biotechnology to provide assistance in the implementation of this young investigator grant which must be directed towards the standardization of tumor models for tests with radiopharmaceuticals, initially aiming at prostate tumors. The present project proposes the establishment of an experimental neuromodulation and oncology research line at the Center of Biotechnology and the consequential structuring of a laboratory which will support the different research centers of the Institute involved in the project.

The Young Investigator fellowship is intended to develop a specific project in the field of: Study of the Interference of Radiopharmaceuticals in the Neuroimmunomodulation in Laboratory Animals.

 

1) Conditions of the Fellowship

It is recommended that the candidate has a PhD in Sciences, in the fields of pharmacology, physiology, immunology or veterinary, with expressive publication records and good fluency in spoken and written English.

Proven experience in Good Laboratory Practices (GLP), imaging techniques, maintenance and growth evaluation of tumor cells; rodent surgery, studies of social interaction of rodents, RT-PCR for gene expression profiling and neurochemistry techniques in animal models are desirable.

The selected investigator will receive a monthly grant of BRL 8,152.20 (eight thousand one hundred and fifty two reais and twenty cents), financial support and complementary benefits to cover expenses directly related to the research activity. The fellowship also includes an installation assistance for investigators who need to move to the city of São Paulo, head office of the project leading institute.

The fellowship will be granted for 24 months.

2) Eligibility and restrictions

Candidates eligible in this announcement:

2.1 Researchers who defended a PhD degree in August 1st 2008 or later;

2.2 Researchers who have been the advisor of at least one master degree, being coadvising also accepted or one concluded undergraduate student advising. In the latter case, coadvising will not be accepted;

2.3 Researchers who have obtained, within the last ten years, as main proponent, research grants from national, state or international funding agencies or universities, including post-doctoral support grants;

2.4 The opportunity is open to Brazilian and foreign countries candidates;

2.5 Candidates NOT eligible:

  • Visiting professors or researchers with temporary bonds with any institution;
  • Researchers who already had a “young investigator” fellowship;
  • Researchers who are in debt of scientific reports or accountability with FAPESP. The eventual acceptance of the submission documentation does not imply that the project will be analyzed. 

2.6 Proposals submitted to this announcement which do not fit to the objectives and/or do not comply with the eligibility criteria will be disqualified. 

 

3) Documents for submission

3.1 Research project: should be planned for a maximum duration of 24 (twenty four) months starting from the effective date of the fellowship, with a maximum of 20 pages, in Portuguese or English and must necessarily contain the following items:

a. Title;

b. Abstract;

c. Introduction;

d. Justification;

e. Objectives;

f. Method;

g. Goals;

h. Expected results;

i. Bibliography related to the project. 

3.2 Complete Lattes CV or curriculum vitae if foreigner;

3.3 PhD diploma

3.4 For candidates who obtained their degree in January 2017 or later, a copy of the defense record will be accepted if the diploma has not yet been emitted. 

The deadline for submission is October, 11th 2018 at 5:00 pm. No later submission will be accepted.

4) Selection process

4.1. Proposals will be evaluated according to:

  • The scientific quality of the project and its adherence to the requested project theme;
  • Their adhesion to the terms of this announcement;
  • The experience and technical capacity of the project proponent;
  • Curriculum Vitae;

4.2 Proposals will be analyzed by a special judging committee, designated by IPEN, composed of members of the Institute and, at least, one external member;

4.3 The selected proposal will be submitted to the evaluation and approval of FAPESP, responsible for the emission of the grant term.

4.4 The proposal selected in this announcement will be submitted to the IPEN committee for ethics in animal research (CEUA) and to the internal biosafety committee (CiBIO) if applicable. 

 

5) Disclosure of the results

The result will be disclosed on the IPEN website on October, 15th 2018.

The result will be disclosed by classification order of the candidates.

The classification ranking will be considered for the purposes of waiting list.

If the best ranked candidate does not fulfill the necessary conditions for the grant implementation, the second in the ranking will be summoned, and so on, up until the position is filled.

The decision of the Special Judgement Commission will be definitive and there will be no appeal.
