Responsibilities

The incumbent will be responsible for:

  • Contributing to project design and planning;
  • Monitoring and tracking progress of the project and budget;
  • Planning, organising and facilitating fieldwork activities/any project logistics;
  • Assisting in the planning and facilitation of stakeholder engagement;
  • Designing and overseeing quality control activities;
  • Conducting all research activities in the project;
  • Developing protocols and securing approvals from ethics and all relevant local bodies;
  • Designing and developing study materials i.e. questionnaires, interview guides;
  • Designing and developing training materials, and facilitate diabetes training workshops;
  • Compiling and submitting accurate reports to the Principal Investigator and stakeholders;
  • Effectively managing all resources for optimal delivery on the project;
  • Co-ordinating and managing the project team.

 

Minimum Requirements

  • MSc or Master's degree in Epidemiology or Public Health;
  • Background in health sciences or nutrition;
  • Five years' experience in health science research or implementation science;
  • Experience in statistical analysis using STATA or R;
  • At least one peer-reviewed publication as first author;
  • Driving license.

 

Required Competencies (Skills, Knowledge and Behavioural Attributes)

  • Knowledge of non-communicable diseases;
  • Knowledge of the South African health system;
  • Quantitative and qualitative research skills and data management; 
  • Scientific writing and report writing skills;
  • Interpersonal conflict management skills and the ability to work under pressure;
  • Computer literacy with a broad knowledge and experience of MS Office packages, internet, Gmail and all aspects of PeopleSoft or related programmes;
  • Accuracy and the ability to maintain confidentiality;
  • Appropriate language and communication skills.

 

Added Advantages and Preferences

  • Two years' experience in project management;
  • Two years' experience in monitoring and evaluation.

The all-inclusive remuneration package for this contract position will be commensurate with the incumbent's level of appointment, as determined by UP policy guidelines.
