Job Details

In recent years the Integrated Nanophotonics group has developed a range of unique techniques such as imaging of single nanoparticles, ultrafast pump-probe spectroscopy of nanomaterials and, more recently, study of integrated nanophotonic devices on silicon. This expertise has resulted in many ground breaking results and high-impact publications, with international visibility. We have received support through an EPSRC grant to find new applications of our capabilities by engaging with a range of other users both within and external to the university. Such collaborative studies will include investigations of fundamental science in nanostructured battery technology, new quantum optical devices, development of integrated photonic chips, and optical studies of nanoparticle labels for biomedicine. The researcher will be responsible for managing access, coordinate activities and engage with the experimental research, analysis and publication of results. As this is a highly collaborative role, there will be a lot of opportunity for the researcher to generate outputs, work with different teams and develop new skills.

For this 24-month postdoctoral research project, we are looking for a candidate with a PhD* or equivalent professional qualifications and experience in Photonics, Experimental Physics, Physical Chemistry, or another relevant field. The post is available for a 2 year fixed term appointment, the starting salary will be £32,236.

For additional information/informal enquiries before submitting your application, contact Prof. Otto Muskens (O.Muskens@soton.ac.uk

Please include a covering letter and full CV in your application. Please note that applications from agencies will not be accepted.

The title of Research Fellow will be applied upon successful completion of the PhD. Prior to the qualification being awarded the title of Senior Research Assistant will be given.

We aim to be an equal opportunities employer and welcome applications from all sections of the community. Please note that applications from agencies will not be accepted unless indicated in the job advert.
