Job Details
The Research Assistant will work collaboratively with other members of the research team including L/Prof Rob Sanson -Fisher and Ms Bree Hobden as well as site investigators and clinic staff. The successful applicant will assist in recruiting oncology outpa tients to participate in the research at the assigned Hospital . The successful applicant will have the ability to prioritise tasks, interact with patients, manage participant logs and paperwork, and have high level organisation skills.
You will be required to attend outpatient clinics at the hospital, which are typically held Monday-Friday between the hours of 8am-5pm (varies by clinic). The role will involve intermittent periods of data collection. The number of hours you will be required to work will be based on availability and scheduled clinic times. You will be fully supported in this role and will receive comprehensive, study -specific training.
Overview Of Unit/school And Position Context
The Health Behaviour Research Collaborative undertakes research in a broad range of fields which currently include cancer prevention, screening and care, dementia, alcohol consumption, Indigenous health, mental illness, and stroke. It is made up of researchers and students from the University of Newcastle, who are affiliated with the University of Newcastle Priority Research Centre for Health Behaviour. A number of PhDs are involved in the various projects. The Health Behaviour Program is led by L/Professor Rob Sanson -Fisher, with researchers Dr Mariko Carey, Dr Allison Boyes, Dr Amy Waller, Dr Jamie Bryant, Dr Elise Mansfield, Dr Lisa Mackenzie and Dr Megan Freund.
Role Responsibilities And Typical Activities
Data Collection
- Regularly liaise with members of the research team
- Liaise with clinic staff to determine which patients are eligible to participate
- Introduce the study to eligible patients, provide an information statement and answer any questions potential participants may have about the study
- Keep a record of non-consenter details, including age and gender and upkeep the feasibility log sheet
- Provide the iPad survey to consenting participants and assist them to use the iPad if required Study consent rates Maintenance of study documents
- Conduct all tasks in accordance with the study protocol, ethics protocols and training manual
