Responsibilities

The successful candidate will be required to:

  • Provide support to academic and academic administration staff with regard to technical and basic functional aspects of the Blackboard Learning Management System and QMLive via e-mail, telephone or in person in accordance with departmental policies;
  • Provide support to students who experience problems with their Blackboard modules;
  • Accurately record all required information in the chosen helpdesk software;
  • Supply just-in-time training to lecturers in the use of the Blackboard system, either telephonically or at the lecturer's office, where necessary;
  • Identify training needs of lecturers and refer them to correct training opportunity;
  • Refer lecturers to instructional designers for more advanced LMS/CBT needs;
  • Manage general office functions for the Department for Education Innovation at the Faculty of Health Sciences: telephone calls, stationery, mail, meetings, venue bookings;
  • Provide administrative support for EI training events at the Faculties of Health - and Veterinary Sciences: advertisements, registration, venue booking, refreshments, duplication of hand-outs and preparation of venues;
  • Assist facilitators during training events.

 

Minimum Requirements

  • Matric/ NSC (Gr 12);
  • At least three years' experience in computer-related administrative work (may be parallel to helpdesk work experience);
  • At least three years' experience in a helpdesk environment, with two years' experience in the Blackboard Learning Management System.

  • Knowledge of the administrative functions for successful e-learning;

  • Professionalism, patience and supportive;
  • Appropriate language and communication skills;
  • Ability to deal effectively with students and staff;
  • Ability to handle a variety of tasks and projects simultaneously and to work under pressure;
  • A high level of integrity and the ability to deal with sensitive information on a confidential basis;
  • Organisational and diary management skills with attention to detail;
  • Ability to type quickly and accurately whilst communicating with the customer.

 

Added Advantages and Preferences

  • Certificates for appropriate computer packages or compliance with the University skills requirements:
    • Windows;
    • MS Office: Word, Excel, PowerPoint;
  • One year of experience in a higher education environment;
  • One year of experience using the PeopleSoft system;
  • Knowledge of UP's financial processes;
  • Knowledge of office equipment;
  • Knowledge and experience in Joomla.

 

All shortlisted candidates may be required to participate in relevant skills assessments as part of the selection process.

The total remuneration package for this position ranges from approximately R 292 608 to R 348 439 as determined by UP policy guidelines. (These amounts include the University's contributions to standard UP benefits, namely provident fund, group life and funeral cover, but exclude contributions to medical aid, as the latter varies per employee.) UP subscribes to the BESTMED medical aid scheme and contributes 50% of the applicable monthly premium.
