Two posts are available
By undertaking a range of activities within BCRRE, the role will create and contribute to the creation of knowledge in the areas of railway systems design, modelling, control systems design and monitoring. There will be a particular focus on designing and developing concepts for mechatronic infrastructure (including track switches).
Person Specification
- First degree in area of specialism, usually mechanical or electronic & electrical engineering, and a higher degree relevant to the research area or equivalent qualifications/research experience.
- Demonstrable knowledge and experience of research on mechatronics and control systems, ideally in mechatronic track switches and similar rail applications.
- Demonstrable knowledge and experience of designing, developing and carrying out research in electronics, mechatronics and robotics/control.
- Previous practical experience of working in multidisciplinary groups, on multiple projects.
- Experience in an experimental/lab environment
- High-level analytical capability.
- Fluency in Matlab/Simulink and ideally packages such as Simpack and LabVIEW.
- Ability to communicate complex information clearly
- Experience in authoring original work for academic journal papers, conference papers or technical reports for industry.
- Ability to assess resource requirements and use resources effectively.
- Understanding of and ability to contribute to broader management/administration processes.
- Contribute to the planning and organising of the research programme and/or specific research project
