Job Details

The PhD Programme in Experimental Biology and Biomedicine (PDBEB) run by the Center for Neuroscience and Cell Biology (CNC) at the University of Coimbra and supported by Fundação para a Ciência e Tecnologia (FCT/MCTES) and the Social European Fund through Programa Operacional do Capital Humano is opening applications for four funded scholarships. Please note that this application is independent from University enrollment, which will take part subsequently, and only for selected applicants. The degree is conferred by The Institute for Interdisciplinary Research at the University of Coimbra (IIIUC).

The monthly payment will be 980 Euros paid by wire transfer.
Work benefits includes the established in the “Regulamento de Bolsas de Investigação da FCT, I. P.”, and by the “Estatuto do Bolseiro de Investigação Científica”, in its present form.

Interested candidates should have a master's degree in Biology, Biochemistry, Biochemistry, Medicine, Pharmacy or related fields.
We are seeking motivated and ambitious candidates, with previous research experience. The duration of the scholarship is one year in length, renewable for up to a total of four years, and cannot be awarded for periods of less than three consecutive months.

Candidates should fill out an application form available at http://beb.cnbc.pt/admission.asp and applications should be sent to Programme Secretary Susana Rocha (srocha@cnc.uc.pt) in the period between September 26th to October 10th, 2018. Candidates should also request that 2 Recommendation Letters (form available on the site) be addressed by Referees directly to the Programme. Copies of the university diplomas are mandatory, but candidates can submit a preliminary document to prove Masters completion, if the final certificate is not yet available. When available the document must be immediately sent to srocha@cnc.uc.pt.
 
Applications will be graded and ranked by the Evaluation Committee in terms of: Curricular Evaluation (EC):
Candidate CV (50%), Motivation Letter (20%) and Recommendation Letters (30%).
Only the 20 top candidates will be selected for interview, which will focus both on scientific maturity and interest/knowledge of CNC areas of intervention. The final rating of interviewed candidates will include EC (35%) and Interview (65%).

After notification of the results, the candidates have 10 working days to respond. In the next 2 working days, counted from the deadline for submitting complaints, the final decisions of the jury shall be published on the CNC's website, at http://www.cnbc.pt/.
The results of this call will be published at CNC, in Coimbra, Portugal, within 90 working days after the deadline to submit applications. All applicants will be informed of the results by e-mail. If the decision is not favorable for the award of the scholarship, the applicant has a period of 10 working days, after receiving notice of the decision, to contest the decision in a preliminary hearing setting by the PDBEB Governing Board. Any appeal to the final decision referred above must be brought before the FCT (Portuguese Foundation for Science and Technology) within 15 working days after the notification.
The scholarships awarded under this contract will be financed by funds from the State Budget of the MCTES (Ministério da Ciência, Tecnologia e Ensino Superior)/FCT and, when eligible, by funds from the European Social Fund through the Programas Operacionais during the period 2014-2020, from Portugal 2020, namely, the Programa Operacional Temático do Capital Humano, the Programa Operacional Regional do Norte, do Centro or do Alentejo, in accordance with the provisions of their specific regulations.
