PhD Studentships in Geochemistry/Petrology

We invite applications for PhD fellowships to outstanding students to investigate subduction zone processes, deep geochemical cycles of the Earth, and mantle plumes. The successful candidate will be part of the Isotopic GeochemistryGroupStateKey Laboratory at the Guanghzou Institute of Geochemistry in China.

Our doctoral candidates will develop different sets of skills in petrology and geochemistry (LA-ICP-MS, SIMS, ICP-MS, EPMA, ….), and he/she will develop overseas collaborations with Europe and the USA to better understand deep processes of the Earth.

GIG possesses a good track record of collaborative and multi-disciplinary work in the field of subduction zones, formation of continental crust, mantle plumes and the deep Earth's geochemical cycle, experimental petrology. In terms of research infrastructure, GIG is home to state-of-the-art analytical facilities, including the Laser ablation Inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometer and electron microprobe, SIMS, TIMS and MC-ICP-MS used to measure stable isotopic ratios, and Pb-Hf-Nd-Sr radiogenic ratios.

Guangzhou is one of the best cities in China with a large international community, bus and metro transportation, and site seeing (https://littlegreybox.net/2015/08/06/discovering-guangzhou/). It is within 2 hours from Hong-Kong and possesses bullet train and one international airport with direct flights from the main European and US cities. It has a good community of international people as well as several sight seeing.

Position: PhD in Geochemistry.

Duration: 3 to 4 years.

Qualifications: a Master degree in Earth Science or geochemistry is required. Good spoken and writing English skills are required.
