The School of Mathematics and Physics

The University of Queensland is recognised nationally and internationally for its research programs across a broad area of mathematics and statistics, and is the leading provider of tertiary mathematics education in Queensland. The School of Mathematics and Physics hosts several research centres and is an active partner in a number of multidisciplinary research groups both within and external to the University. Our staff are recognised internationally for their active and dynamic research programs across a wide range of areas in mathematics.

The University of Queensland is one of the top three universities in Australia, measured by the quality of its comprehensive range of research fields. In addition to providing excellent potential for interdisciplinary research, the University is located in the vibrant riverfront city of Brisbane, whose sub-tropical climate, cultural diversity, and proximity to coastal regions make it an attractive environment in which to live.

The role

The successful appointees will be expected to engage in both specialist and service teaching at undergraduate levels and make a significant contribution to the development and delivery of our programs. They will have a particular focus on first year mathematics and/or statistics education, and will participate in, and lead, the development of  teaching resources. Each position will have an additional specific role attached to it.

  • Position one:

Perform the role of first-year coordinator, with responsibility for ensuring that our offerings align with latter-year courses in the mathematical sciences, as well as liaising with client disciplines to ensure our courses align with their program requirements. This will also entail transition-to-tertiary responsibility, in particular, developing and leading the delivery of targeted tutorials and other resources for at-risk cohorts.

  • Position two:

Be in charge of tutor development, training and coordination, and have a significant role in ensuring that tutorial resources being developed for our courses - both digital and non-digital - align with best practice and the needs of diverse student cohorts.

In addition, the successful applicants will be required to perform administrative, outreach and other activities associated with the School.

The person

We are seeking engaged and collaborative academic staff who are dedicated to excellence in teaching and learning. You will have a PhD or equivalent in mathematics, statistics or a closely related area, and demonstrated high-quality university teaching and coordinating skills in mathematics or statistics. You will also have the ability to bring together discipline expertise and pedagogical content knowledge to achieve improved outcomes for student learning.

The University of Queensland is a family-friendly workplace and offers a number of flexible work options to help staff balance their responsibilities at work and at home. Further information can be found here.

Remuneration

This is a full-time continuing appointment at Academic Level B. The base remuneration package will be in the range $92,142- $109,419 p.a., plus employer superannuation contributions of up to 17% (total package will be in the range $107,807 - $128,020 p.a.).
