Electrical Product Engineer-New Technologies--Technical expert

My client, a global leading coroporation, is looking for a Product Engineer to support the development of cutting-edge new products to meet ever increasing demands of the transportation industry.
This position requires a broad understanding of turbos & vehicle systems combined with creativity and drive to develop new products based on customer needs.


Responsibility spans from concept development through test/validation and launch, including the creation and completion of validation/troubleshooting plans, engineering bill of materials, prototype hardware orders, and design (3D-model and 2D-print) requests to successfully qualify turbochargers for diesel and gasoline engines. The successful candidate will work closely with a cross functional team to prove these concepts through hardware development, customer projects & launch into production. The Product Engineer leads the product design integrating all aspects from rotor systems and mechanics to electric machine integration, as well as leads problem resolution tasks that include the evaluation of a problem, recommendation of technical solutions, implementation of change, and clear technical communication.


Position Responsibilities:


 Leads the product development integrating all aspects from rotor systems and mechanics to electric machine integration, and identify new technology needs to meet future customer requirements.
 Owns the creation and completion of validation plans, engineering bill of materials, prototype hardware orders, and design (3D-model and 2D-print) requests to successfully qualify turbochargers for diesel and gasoline engines.
 Work closely with a cross functional team to prove these concepts through hardware development, customer projects & launch into production.
 Leads problem resolution tasks that include the evaluation of a problem, recommendation of technical solutions, implementation of change, and clear technical communication.
 Support Customer Teams in application of the product,
 Promotes standardization of the state of the art technical solution across customers


Skills/ Qualifications
This position requires an experienced development engineer capable of leading complex projects from concept development through product validation.
Success Factor
 In-depth understanding of turbochargers and internal combustion engines
 Translate customer needs into new product designs that meet requirements
 Lead the overall design & work with team for analysis and development of specific components/aspects of the product including
o Rotor dynamics & bearing systems
o Thermal and mechanical stress management
o Aerodynamics performance
o High speed electric machine & electronic component integration
o Seals, fittings, joints and other product components
 Self-motivated, consistently take the initiative to get things done, and do things before asked by others or forced to by events
 Ability to focus efforts on those things that affect results the most
 Proficient with GD&T for manufacturing
 Familiar with New Product Implementation (NPI) Process
 Work with PM & ISC to select suppliers, support design review with suppliers, ensure design for manufacturability.
 Plan test & validation hardware needs with team. Ensure all parts, tooling, instrumentation and services are available to meet test requirements & timing
 Interface with internal teams, customer and external vendors throughout program. Generate reports & documentation as required
 Good documentation and communication skills are essential.

Basic Qualifications


 Engineering degree or equivalent, Mechanical or Electrical
 5 or more years work experience developing mechanical and aerodynamic devices/components/systems
 Experience with product design and validation testing


Additional Qualifications


 M.S., PhD or work experience in engineering related to turbochargers - internal combustion engines, aerodynamics, rotordynamics, thermo-mechanical analysis, turbocharger matching/performance simulation
 Basic knowledge of electric machine fundamentals
 2 years of experience developing products in the automotive industry
 Ability to work independently in fast paced development environment
