Job Details
The post holder will primarily be responsible for planning, conducting and delivering high quality research aligned to the planned programme of research. He/she would need to be able to work overseas in rural South Africa for visits of up to 2-3 weeks, totalling about 6-8 weeks per year. The successful candidate will hold a national passport of a country that is exempt from visas for visits to South Africa of up to 90 days per annum (see http://www.dha.gov.za/index.php/immigration-services/exempt-countries). A full clean driving licence is highly desirable.
You will have a PhD in health psychology or a closely related social science discipline, and can demonstrate substantial experience of conducting primary data collection including individual interviews and focus groups, and qualitative analysis. A liking and strong aptitude for logic-based analysis is required. You will possess excellent organisational, communication and computing skills, and must have experience of effectively working as part of a team. Experience of working in social science teams on randomised trials or cohort studies, and / or intervention development with the behaviour change wheel approach is highly desirable.
Interviews will be held on 11th October 2018 at Southampton General Hospital. The department will consider Skype interviews for candidates who cannot attend in person on the day. The position is tenable from November 2018 or as soon as possible thereafter.
