Job Details

The University of Queensland (UQ) is one of Australia's leading teaching and research universities, and ranks among the world's top 50 universities according to several key independent rankings. Some 52,000 students study at UQ, including more than 16,400 postgraduate students and about 15,400 international students who contribute to a diverse, supportive and inclusive campus community. UQ's research has global impact, delivered by an interdisciplinary community of more than 2500 research active staff across our six faculties, eight globally recognised research institutes and 100+ research centres. In December 2017, UQ celebrated its 250,000th graduate joining its global alumni network, which includes approximately 13,800 PhDs and spans more than 170 countries.

Engagement with external stakeholders, including industry and business, is vital to UQ's success as a premier teaching and research university ranked among the world's top universities. Reporting to the President and Vice-Chancellor, the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (External Engagement) is responsible for providing strategic leadership for UQ's global strategy and internationalisation agenda, including strategy formulation and implementation, as well as providing leadership and direction for key elements of the University's Entrepreneurship agenda. The Deputy Vice-Chancellor (External Engagement) leads the University's overall external engagement strategy for international and domestic student recruitment; advancement, alumni and community relations activities; for the management of functions and execution of strategy relating to branding, marketing, and communications; and for oversight of the University's relationships with Indigenous communities and stakeholders.

The University is seeking a strategic leader with a proven track record in domestic and international student recruitment at scale, constructive engagement with business and industry and a great fit with our values.

The successful candidate will hold a postgraduate degree and be capable of working collaboratively across all of UQ's portfolios. Highly developed interpersonal and communication skills in different cultural and commercial contexts are essential as the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (External Engagement) will need to build and sustain relationships with a broad range of Alumni, industry, government and community organisations globally. Personal traits include diplomacy, tact and negotiation skills, coupled with the ability to work effectively and collaboratively as a member of the University's senior executive to develop, articulate and sustain a shared vision for UQ.
