The Faculty of Arts is the home of the humanities, social sciences, languages and indigenous studies at the University of Auckland. We have been internationally recognised as New Zealand's leading arts faculty in the QS World University Rankings by Faculty in 2018, which placed us 28th in the world for arts and humanities and 33rd for social sciences.

We are seeking a Lecturer/Senior Lecturer in the School of Social Sciences to contribute to teaching and research in the area of New Zealand Politics and Policy.

Reporting to the Head of School, the successful applicant will teach New Zealand Politics and Policy at undergraduate and graduate level, and supervise Honours and Masters Dissertations and PhD theses on topics relevant to New Zealand.

The key accountabilities of this position include:

  • teaching at undergraduate and postgraduate levels
  • supervising Masters and Doctoral research students in line with University of Auckland Academic Standards
  • pursuing an active research programme
  • contributing to disciplinary development and service at both the School and Faculty level


We seek candidates with strong, demonstrable teaching and research skills and interests in New Zealand government and governance.
