The High Performance Networks group (HPN), led by Professor Dimitra Simeonidou is seeking two researchers with expertise in FPGA and embedded systems design. Researchers will carry out research in network system and sub-systems application.

The High Performance Networks (HPN) group, specializes in the application and development of advanced hardware and software technologies to future optical and packet networks for 5G, data centre and smart city applications.

Several multi-million research programs and projects will provide a platform from which you will communicate and collaborate with top-researchers in UK and Europe.

You will carry out work leading to publications in high-quality, high-impact journals and presentations at international conferences in conjunction with internal and external research collaborations in industrial and academic laboratories in Europe and beyond. You will contribute towards preparation and submission of research proposals to national and international academic and industrial research funding organisations and towards further evolution of the existing experimental facilities, alongside assisting in project management duties.

You will carry out research, software development and experimental work for optical and high performance networks in the following fields:

  • Digital design of programmable optical and high performance networks
  • Network function programmability and virtualization
  • High data rate communication networks (10/100 Gbps, up to 1 Tbps)
  • Programmable and reconfigurable FPGA design and prototyping
  • Embedded system design

                                                          

This appointment is offered on an open-ended contract with funding for up to 24 months in the first instance, with the possibility of extension.
