Information & Communication Technology (ICT) is one of three disciplines in the School of Technology, Environments & Design, in the College of Sciences & Engineering. The appointee will make an engaged and effective contribution to the Discipline of ICT.

This appointment is as a Senior Lecturer (Academic Level C) or an Associate Professor (Academic Level D) in the Discipline of Information & Communication Technology (ICT). The Discipline of ICT aspires to achieve research excellence by strengthening key research activities, exploiting synergies, and by recruiting key staff within the broader Open to Talent strategic plan of the University.

 

In the role you will:

Level C

  • Undertake high-quality original research of national and, increasingly, of international significance in the field of ICT.  Secure competitive external funding.  Produce high quality scholarly publications. Successfully supervise research higher degree students to completion. Meet and regularly exceed the University's research performance expectations for Level C.
  • Undertake scholarly, student-centred undergraduate and postgraduate coursework teaching of an exemplary quality in ICT.  Consult with students and provide timely feedback.  Contribute to curriculum development and renewal and initiatives to provide authentic work integrated learning and improve the student experience.  Coordinate units and coursework teaching programs as required.
  • Champion the Discipline of ICT to broaden opportunities for collaborative partnerships across the University and with the wider community.  Make a strong and sustained contribution to the School, College and University in achieving its strategic objectives and fulfilling its operational responsibilities.
  • Contribute to the development and maintenance of productive and effective links across the University and externally with relevant interdisciplinary domains, the professions, industry and community, including involvement in professional activities, liaising with industry and representative bodies, and participating in consultancy projects.
  • Provide academic leadership, particularly in fostering outstanding research and/or learning and teaching.

Level D

  • Undertake high-quality original research of international significance in the field of ICT.  Secure competitive external funding.  Produce high-quality scholarly publications. Successfully supervise research higher degree students to completion. Meet and regularly exceed the University's research performance expectations for Level D.
  • Undertake scholarly, student-centred undergraduate and postgraduate coursework teaching of an exemplary quality in ICT and provide leadership in key areas of learning and teaching in the Discipline.  Consult with students and provide timely feedback.  Significant leadership in curriculum development and renewal and initiatives to provide authentic work integrated learning and improve the student experience.  Coordinate units and coursework teaching programs as required.
  • Champion the Discipline of ICT to broaden opportunities for collaborative partnerships across the University and with the wider community.  Make a substantial and sustained contribution to the School, College and University in achieving its strategic objectives and fulfilling its operational responsibilities.
  • Provide leadership in the development and maintenance of productive and effective links across the University and externally with relevant interdisciplinary domains, the professions, industry and community, including involvement in professional activities, liaising with industry and representative bodies, and participating in consultancy projects.
  • Provide academic leadership, particularly in building teams and fostering outstanding research, in collaborating discipline research groups, and increasingly in supporting the career development of more junior staff. 
  • Provide service to the discipline and University through participation in management and advisory groups.

 

You will be employed on a full time, ongoing basis.

To be considered, you will have:

Level C

  • A PhD or equivalent in a relevant field.
  • A substantial record of, and continuing commitment to, research that has achieved national recognition and makes notable contributions to the field of ICT in areas, such as artificial intelligence including distributed systems and/or information systems including human computer interaction and games technology and/or virtual/augmented reality technology.
  • Extensive experience and demonstrated passion for developing, and participating, in multi-disciplinary research.  Proven ability to enhance existing research in the Discipline and develop multi-disciplinary research collaborations in areas where the University and College of Sciences and Engineering have research strength, or are developing research strength, such as ‘Smart Environments', ‘Water and Southern Ocean', ‘Smart Industry and Agriculture', ‘Digital Cyber Space' and ‘Defence Research and Development'.
  • Extensive experience and demonstrated achievement in high-quality, University level teaching and learning. Ability to teach across a number of ICT related areas such as software design and development, database and web/internet development, project management, network technology including system administration and security, and/or information systems including ERP, knowledge management, eLogistics and ICT system strategy at a postgraduate level.
  • Demonstrated adaptability and commitment to innovation in Learning and Teaching pedagogy and experience in curriculum development and the development of new units as a unit coordinator.

 

Level D

  • A PhD or equivalent in a relevant field.
  • An outstanding record of, and continuing commitment to, research that has achieved national and international recognition and makes innovative and notable contributions to the field of ICT in areas such as artificial intelligence including distributed systems and/or information systems including human computer interaction and games technology.  This should be demonstrated by a substantial record of high-quality publications, success in securing external competitive and other funding, and/or reportable engagement and impact outcomes from research developments. 
  • Demonstrated ability to organise and lead multi-disciplinary research within discipline defined areas, such as artificial intelligence or information systems.  Demonstrated willingness and capacity to work in and foster a team environment.
  • An outstanding record of excellent contributions to successful research higher degree supervision and completions.
  • Demonstrated ability to show, with clear evidence, that research has had, or has the potential to have, engagement and impact with real-world application, and the leadership capacity to enhance existing research in the discipline and develop multi-disciplinary research collaborations in areas where the University and College of Sciences and Engineering has research strength, or is developing research strength, such as ‘Smart Environments', ‘Water and Southern Ocean', ‘Smart Industry and Agriculture', ‘Digital Cyber Space' and ‘Defence Research and Development'.
  • Extensive and significant experience and demonstrated success in leading University-level teaching and learning by adopting a student-centred approach to student engagement.  Outstanding record in curriculum development, design of courses, and innovations in the delivery of teaching in the discipline, taking account of national and international developments.
  • Demonstrated ability to deliver high-quality teaching across a number of ICT related areas, such as software design and development, database and web/internet development, project management, network technology including system administration and security, and/or information systems including ERP, knowledge management, eLogistics and ICT system strategy at a postgraduate level, and the capacity to develop new units.
  • Outstanding record of building and maintaining effective and productive links locally and nationally within the discipline, profession, industry (where relevant) and wider community.  In addition, a demonstrated willingness and capacity to be a contributor for community and industry within Tasmania, utilising the unique local advantages and opportunities that Tasmania has.
  • Distinguished career as an academic leader, with a substantial record in team building and creating effective working relationships, and the capacity to foster excellence in research, learning and teaching, community services and engagement and various university service areas and to support and facilitate the career development of staff.

 

Appointment to this role will be at Academic Level C or Level D.  Level C will have a total remuneration package of up to $154,183 comprising base salary within the range of $113,867 to $131,781 plus 17% superannuation.

Level D will have a total remuneration package of up to $176,417 comprising base salary within the range of $136,010 to $150,784 plus 17% superannuation.
