Job Details
The High Performance Networks (HPN) group, specializes in the application and development of advanced hardware and software technologies to future optical and packet networks for 5G, data centre and smart city applications.
The HPN group features one of the largest and most illustrious optical network test-bed facilities in Europe, with additional QKD units for experimentation. National dark fibre infrastructure service (NDFIS) and UK Programmable Fixed and Mobile Internet Infrastructure (INITIATE) provides physical connections to other universities or research institutes in UK. In addition, connectivity to the Bristol 5G City Testbed is enabled from the HPN laboratory, enabling you to carry out theoretical and experimental research on novel software and hardware systems for deeply programmable quantum-secured networks.
Several multi-million research programs and projects will provide a platform from which you will communicate and collaborate with top-researchers in UK and Europe.
You will carry out work leading to publications in high-quality, high-impact journals and presentations at international conferences in conjunction with internal and external research collaborations in industrial and academic laboratories in Europe and beyond. You will contribute towards preparation and submission of research proposals to national and international academic and industrial research funding organisations and towards further evolution of the existing experimental facilities, alongside assisting in project management duties.
In particular, you are required to carry out research in one or more of the following research topics:
- Design and experimental demonstration of quantum-secured optical networks with QKD technologies
- Develop SDM/WDM/TDM multi-dimensional optical quantum-secured networks
- Network convergence in 5G/Metro multi-technology network ecosystem
- Design of novel quantum-secured applications for networking (e.g. QIoT, Machine Learning, etc.)
This post is full time, open-ended, with fixed term funding up to 1st October 2021.
Informal enquiries can be made to: Professor Dimitra Simeonidou (Dimitra.Simeonidou@bristol.ac.uk), Dr Reza Nejabati (reza.nejabati@bristol.ac.uk) and Dr George Kanellos (gt.kanellos@bristol.ac.uk), Dr. Emilio Hugues-Salas
We appreciate and value difference, seeking to attract, develop and retain a diverse mix of talented people that will contribute to the overall success of Bristol and help maintain our position as one of the world's leading universities.
