Aga Khan University's (AKU) Department of Community Health Sciences (CHS) is a preeminent public health institution in the country. The vision of the Chancellor set the direction for the University to take a lead in community development and the creation of an innovative curriculum that emphasizes a balance between patient care and population health. CHS has taken a major role in pursuing that over past several decades by leading the development of national level primary health care, public health practice, health systems through evidence based approach. CHS has established successful models in urban and rural settings in Pakistan emphasizing empowerment - building on the strengths of communities. As part of an international university, CHS collaborates in a global network of outstanding research and teaching institutions including AKU affiliates in East Africa and Central Asia.

CHS has five major units - Epidemiology & Biostatistics, Health Policy & Management, Population & Reproductive Health, Environmental Health, and Non Communicable Diseases & Mental Health. 

Responsibilities

Being a member of the Health Policy and Management Unit, you will be responsible for:

  • developing and conducting educational/training programs for undergraduate, graduate, and post graduate students at the Aga Khan University 
  • developing continuing education programs and tailored educational program targeted at mid and senior managers and policymakers in health and financing sector
  • establishing a research program that includes costing, unit cost analysis and economic appraisal of public health interventions, expenditure analysis, econometric analysis in low and limited resource settings
  • conducting health expenditure surveys as well as a range of health economics outcomes analysis and modeling in conjunction with an outcomes-based research project
  • advising national and sub-national governments on promoting efficiency and equity in financing of the health system
  • collaborating with research scientists and key stakeholders, nationally and internationally, and promoting AKU as a center with high level expertise in health economics and financing.


Requirements

You should have:

  • PhD degree in Health Economics from a well reputed and HEC recognized University/Institution
  • 10-year teaching/research experience in the field of Health Economics in an HEC recognized University or a post-graduate Institution with demonstrated professional accomplishment and evidence of publications and successful performance in grant writing, and scientific/public health research & development
  • good teaching skills and knowledge of new teaching methodologies and practices 
  • ability to communicate effectively both verbal and written in English and Urdu (applicable to the nationals only) , however, command over other local/regional languages would be an advantage
  • good academic writing skills  
  • proficiency in use of related computer software packages
  • ability of building and promoting partnerships across the organization and beyond
  • capability for curriculum planning and organizing skills for research administration
  • good interpersonal skills and commitment to learning, growth, and self-development.
