Job Purpose

The School of Philosophy, Theology and Religion is a dynamic and thriving multi-Department School. We seek to appoint an exceptional Student Experience Officer who has energy, enthusiasm and the ability to work with confidence to improve student experience and academic engagement in line with School and College strategic objectives.

The Student Experience Officer is critical to the delivery of a high quality, enhanced student experience for all taught students in the School of Philosophy, Theology and Religion. Working creatively with academic and other Professional Services colleagues and in a fast paced environment, the post-holder will devise and deliver activities and initiatives that support the entire student journey, from application to graduation.

The post-holder will have the opportunity to work on their own initiative but will also have the chance to work as part of a friendly and collegiate wider Student Experience team.

The ideal candidate will become a visible and friendly presence for students in the school and be just as willing to co-ordinate a student exhibition or manage the School social media as contributing to student induction programmes and reviewing student survey results and drafting formal action plans.

 

Person Specification

Shortlisted candidates will be expected to evidence the following in their application:

  • First degree in one of the academic disciplines of the College, preferably of the School
  • Considerable experience of supporting students in higher education (either in a voluntary or paid capacity)
  • An understanding of undergraduate and postgraduate education, the student lifecycle and the diverse needs of different cohorts
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, including listening skills
  • Ability to work on own initiative to set up new activity or initiatives
  • Ability to analyse data and to use the outcomes to inform action planning
  • Effective team working skills evidenced by specific examples of team working
  • A track record of delivering an excellent customer experience
  • Self- motivated, well organised and able to prioritise workloads to meet deadlines
  • Thorough working knowledge of Microsoft Office packages includinguse of databases and spreadsheets
  • Knowledge of social media and the emerging trends associated with it
  • An understanding of the issues facing the national Higher Education sector
  • Understanding of the issues affecting the student academic experience in a higher education environment
  • Willingness to learn and understand the direction/vision of the School and how this may impact the student experience
  • Commitment to continuing professional development and training
