Junior Lecturer/Lecturer: English Education

Duties and responsibilities:

  • Teach undergraduate and postgraduate certificate modules in English Education and other foundational modules in education.
  • Participate in the work integrated learning programme (teaching practice).
  • Ensure active involvement in research activities of the Faculty.
  • Contribute to curriculum development in the field of English Education specifically, and Languages Education in general.
  • Supervise and provide consultation sessions for undergraduate and postgraduate students.
  • Work in a team with colleagues within the Faculty.
  • Contribute to leadership and administrative task related to the Faculty.

 

Inherent requirements:

Junior Lecturer:

  • An honour's degree in English Education.
  • A good academic record.

 

Lecturer:

  • A relevant Master's degree with specialisation in the teaching and learning of English Home Language in schools.
  • Proven experience in the delivery of poster or oral presentations at academic conferences or equivalent activities.
  • Provide evidence of manuscripts produced that have the potential to be converted or submitted for publication in an accredited journal.
  • A good academic record.

 

Required competencies:

  • Teaching experience in English.
  • Knowledge of and the ability to use Learning Management System (LMS) for teaching and assessment.
  • Familiarity with inclusive pedagogic practices and alternative assessment strategies.
  • Good research skills and writing skills.
  • Good computer literacy skills.

 

Recommendations:

Junior Lecturer

  • Master's degree in English Education or willingness to enroll for a Master's degree.
  • One (1) year teaching experience in a higher education context or post-school environment.
  • Six (6) to twelve (12) month's experience in the use of the Learning Management Systems (LMS) to facilitate teaching and learning.
  • Familiarity with teaching strategies, methodologies and assessments practices used in higher education contexts.

 

Lecturer

  • Doctoral degree in English Education.
  • Proven research record of relevant publications in the national and/or international accredited journals.
  • Two (2) years' teaching experience in a post-school education environment or in a teacher education.
  • Experience in the use of Learning Management Systems (LMS) to facilitate teaching and learning.
  • Evidence of previous involvement in engaged scholarship.
  • Experience in postgraduate supervision.
