Postdoctoral Fellowship in Cardiology

A 48-months postdoctoral position supported by São Paulo Research Foundation (FAPESP) is available at the Department of Internal Medicine (Cardiology Division) from Ribeirão Preto Medical School, University of São Paulo, Ribeirão Preto, São Paulo State, Brazil. The researcher will develop the projects titled: "Chronic Chagas cardiomyopathy in experimental animal model: prospective study of anatomic and functional ventricular changes and the effect of therapeutic interventions" and “Study of phosphodiesterase-5 inhibitor effects on myocardial perfusion changes and evolution of myocardial dysfunction in chronic Chagas cardiomyopathy model in Syrian hamsters. For that, the selected researcher will conduct the projects at Cardiology Division supervised by Prof. Marcus Vinicius Simões.

The projects aim to develop translational investigations in chronic Chagas cardiomypathy. 

 

Requirement for applicants

• PhD in Sciences;
• Knowledge in Cardiology especially about Chagas disease;
• Prior experience in:

1. Acquisition, processing and interpretation of pre-clinical echocardiography imaging;
2. Acquisition, processing and analysis of pre-clinical Nuclear Medicine imaging (Single Photon Emission Tomography - SPECT, and Positron Emission Tomography);
3. Acquisition and analysis of Electrocardiograms in rodents;

• Experience with basic techniques related to cardiovascular function as: western blot, real time PCR, immunohistochemistry, Immunofluorescence, radioimmunoassay).
• Expertise in basics laboratory animal science (housing, handling, anesthesia, drugs administration, blood sampling, venous and arterial access, euthanasia).

This opportunity is open to candidates of any nationalities. The selected candidate will receive a FAPESP's Post-Doctoral fellowship in the amount of BRL 7.373,10 monthly and a research contingency fund, equivalent to 15% of the annual value of the fellowship which should be spent in items directly related to the research activity.
