Pro Vice-Chancellor - Division of Health, Science, Computing and Engineering

We are seeking an exceptional senior academic to lead our newly formed Division of Health, Science, Computing and Engineering.

The Pro Vice-Chancellor (PVC) is the senior academic and strategic leader of the Division, responsible for shaping its intellectual, professional and operational culture and direction and for the effective creation and stewardship of its resources. The PVC places paramount importance on the interests and reputation of the University as a whole, promoting these through leadership of the Division. There is specific responsibility to lead academic programme development in the interests of increasing student numbers and advancing the quality of teaching and research in the Division; ensure the appointment and development of outstanding staff; promote the educational success of students; and ensure close liaison and collaboration with key stakeholders.

The Division brings together the Schools of Science; Engineering; Computer Science, Mathematics and Statistics; and Health, Sport and Human Performance, together with the Environmental Research Institute. Combined they currently have 2369 equivalent fulltime students (including 480 postgraduate students and 277 international students), 221 academic staff and 101 professional and technical staff.

The significance of the role is demonstrated by the appointee being a member of the University's executive leadership group and reporting to the Vice-Chancellor.

To succeed in this role you will need a PhD or equivalent in a relevant field, a personal record of academic distinction and achievement in one of the disciplinary areas of the Division and a proven track record of successful academic leadership at least at the level of Head of a large Department or Head of a major Centre or Institute. Demonstrated ability to articulate a vision, lead change in a complex environment and develop innovative strategies is essential together with large scale budget management experience and excellent interpersonal and communication skills.

The capacity to provide leadership that respects the diversity of approaches in different academic disciplines, the ability to represent the interests of the Division while contributing to University-wide leadership and a commitment to the highest levels of quality in all activities are key attributes.

The appointment will be for a fixed term of five years.
