The role

The appointee will work in close collaboration with the research team on projects relating to Electrical Engineering. You will focus on the development of optical systems for short-reach datacoms in multimode optical fibre using vertical cavity surface emitting lasers (VCSELs). The position is funded under an Australian Research Council (ARC) Linkage Project in collaboration with Finisar (Sunnyvale, California).

Responsibilities include planning the research, executing the proposed research plan, assessing the research outcomes, reporting project findings and providing advice to PhD students on related projects.

The person

The applicant should possess a PhD or postdoctoral experience in a relevant area of physics or engineering. Ideally candidates will be experienced with Fourier optics (especially SLMs), multimode fibre optics and free-space optics. Strong programming skills are desirable, particularly in Matlab, .NET, C, C++ and CUDA. The successful applicant should have a strong desire to develop a successful and highly productive research career and possess good general research skills and writing abilities.

Remuneration

This is a full-time fixed term appointment available at Academic Level A or Level B.  Appointment level will be commensurate to qualifications and experience.

The remuneration package for Level A will be in the range $75,557 - $87,5359 per annum plus employer superannuation contributions of up to 17% (total package will be in the range $88,401 - $102,416 per annum).

The remuneration package for Level B will be in the range $92,142 - $109,419 per annum plus employer superannuation contributions of up to 17% (total package will be in the range $107,807 - $128,020 per annum).
