The Institute of Molecular and Clinical Ophthalmology Basel (IOB) is seeking a highly motivated PhD candidate to join the group investigating visual circuits: structure, functions, and repair within the Molecular Research Center.

The PhD candidate will study molecular processes driving retinal cell types and their dysfunction in genetic diseases. Using genetic and molecular approaches combined with biochemical analyses, cell imaging, and cell function readouts, she/he will investigate retinal disease-related pathomechanisms and therapy strategies in animal models, retina cultures, and human retinal organoids. The PhD projects will involve generation retina disease models, molecular analyses of RNA-protein and protein-protein interactions, and developing gene and cell therapy approaches for vision loss.

Your profile

The successful candidate should be highly motivated to contribute to our efforts to understand the vision, its diseases, and developing therapy strategies. She/he should have a Master degree and solid background in molecular biology or biochemistry, genetics, and cell biology. Prior experience in retinal biology is a plus. We expect excellent communication and organization skills, and the ability to work as a team member. The international environment of the IOB requires good spoken and written English.
