Job Details
Aga Khan University's (AKU) Department of Community Health Sciences (CHS) is a preeminent public health institution in the country. The vision of the Chancellor set the direction for the University to take a lead in community development and the creation of an innovative curriculum that emphasizes a balance between patient care and population health. CHS has taken a major role in pursuing that over past several decades by leading the development of national level primary health care, public health practice, health systems through evidence based approach. CHS has established successful models in urban and rural settings in Pakistan emphasizing empowerment - building on the strengths of communities. As part of an international university, CHS collaborates in a global network of outstanding research and teaching institutions including AKU affiliates in East Africa and Central Asia.
CHS has five major units - Epidemiology & Biostatistics, Health Policy & Management, Population & Reproductive Health, Environmental Health, and Non Communicable Diseases & Mental Health.
Responsibilities
You will be responsible for:
- facilitating AKU-wide faculty in the development and designing of quantitative research studies benefiting from the tools of epidemiology and biostatistics
- advising on methodological elements in the development of research proposals and grants
- advising clinical and non-clinical faculty working in AKU Departments in developing and refining sampling techniques, sample size calculation, data collection tools, analysis plan, and interpretation of study findings
- undertaking independent research and/or participating in research activities and contributing to their success particularly related to methodological aspects related to biostatistics
- taking on assigned academic and administrative responsibilities related to graduate and undergraduate curriculum while undertaking other scholarly activities.
Requirements
You should have:
- MBBS with a health professional degree preferably with a background in infectious diseases and Master's degree or equivalent (e.g. MSc Epidemiology & Biostatistics/ Statistics/Applied Statistics or equivalent)
- at least two to three years' of relevant experience with demonstrated professional accomplishment and evidence of publications and successful performance in grant writing, and scientific/public health research & development
- well versed with current research methodologies and protocol development
- good teaching skills and knowledge of new teaching methodologies and practices
- ability to communicate effectively both verbal and written in English and Urdu, however, command over other local/regional languages would be an advantage
- good academic writing skills
- proficiency in use of related computer software packages
- good conceptual and analytical skills for managing public health data
- capability for curriculum planning and organizing skills for research administration
- good interpersonal skills and ability to work in a multidisciplinary teams
