Role Description
The successful candidate is expected to develop and deliver high quality undergraduate and postgraduate courses into the Mechatronics program. She/he will be required to supervise honours and research higher degree students and will have a high - impact rese arch profile within the area of Mechatronics. She/he will share administrative responsibilities with other academics in Mechanical Engineering and Mechatronics.

The Faculty of Engineering and Built Environment is one of the leading faculties of its kind in Australia. We have achieved outstanding results in the Australian Research Council ERA research excellence ratings, being the only university to achieve the highest possible rating of '5' in Civil Engineering across all three ERA assessments (2010, 2012 and 2015), and one of only two to achieve a 5 in Electrical and Electronic Engineering across all three ERA assessments, and a 5 in Resources Engineering and Extractive Metallurgy. Our position as one of the most highly ranked engineering faculties in Australia is recognised through our associate membership of the Group of Eight. Dedicated to research and training in the disciplines of Chemical, Civil, Environmental, Mechanical Engineering and Mechatronics, and Surveying, the School of Engineering is currently seeking to appoint a suitably qualified Lecturer at Level C in Mechatronics on a fulltime, on-going basis.
Role Responsibilities And Typical Activities
Teaching and Learning Performance
Demonstrate educational leadership in Teaching and Learning at the course level and contribution to the program level by:
• Actively participating in the teaching programs of the Discipline
• Developing course materials in collaboration with other academics in the Discipline
• Coordinating and reviewing undergraduate and postgraduate courses in the Discipline
Research and Innovation
• Maintain a good record of publications in high quality research journals.
• Develop an independent research profile and a research team.
• Actively participate in and lead a collaborative research team in the Mechatronics area.
• Effective co-supervision of Research Master and PhD students.
Service and Engagement
• Collaborate with colleagues to contribute to the University and its academic community by assisting the School to deliver a range of administrative functions including course coordination.
• Contribute to the School and/or Faculty governance by proactively participating in initiatives/activities.
• Contribute to the School through membership of professional associations, building partnerships with the industry and through an emerging public profile.
ESSENTIAL CRITERIA
- Have a PhD in Mechatronics Systems and Dynamics.
- Strong background in Lagrangian and Hamiltonian mechanics and energy-based control methods.
- Strong background in all areas of guidance, navigation and control and implementation of Mechatronics systems.
- Strong track record of publications in high-quality journals and conferences.
- Strong track record of developing international research collaborations.
- Clear evidence of a research profile.
- Demonstrated ability as a highly effective teacher in a University environment.
- Demonstrated ability of industry engagement and success in attracting industry based funding.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills and an ability to interact with students, researchers and colleagues.
CONDITIONS & BENEFITS
Academic Level C from $116,805 to $134,686 pa plus contributory superannuation with Unisuper, attracting a generous employer contribution of 17%.
