Duties and responsibilities:

Responsible for copyright compliance. The clearance entails:

• Log the readers on the NEVADA system.
• Analyse the content of the readers and course packs.
• Advice on how to adjust the content in order to comply with DALRO regulations.
• Advice on alternative measures to deal with third party content, eg Blackboard, or e-links to library databases.
• Promote the University's Intellectual Property (IP) Policy.
• Report to DALRO on the copyright.
• Support the Deputy Director: Library with all duties related to copyright activities.
• Administrate copyright clearance process.
• Ensure the smooth transition of licence agreement changes.
• Attend to all queries relating to copyright application system.

Inherent requirements:

• Bachelor degree.
• One (1) year experience with NEVADA system.
• One (1) year experience in copyright administration at the Higher Education Institution.

Required competencies:

• Knowledge and understanding of South Africa's policy landscape relating to IP and innovation systems.
• Extensive knowledge of copyright legislation.
• Good interpersonal and communication skills and ability to function with ease in the University's richly diverse working environment.
• Advance computer skills in MS Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
• Meticulous attention to detail and commitment to a high standard of work.
• Ability to work independently in a high-pressure environment.
• Ability to plan effectively.
• Operational thoroughness.
• Project management skills.
• The ability to converse technically and legally.
• Task orientated and decisive.

Recommendations:

• Experience in the higher education environment.
• Postgraduate qualification in the legal field.
• Knowledge of IP (certificate in IP would be advantageous).
