FACULTY OF NATURAL AND AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES, DEPARTMENT OF BIOCHEMISTRY, GENETICS AND MICROBIOLOGY, GENETICS DIVISION, LECTURER (THREE-YEAR CONTRACT APPOINTMENT)

RESPONSIBILITIES:

The incumbent will be responsible for:

  • The core function of undergraduate teaching of large first and/or second year groups in Genetics;
  • Limited participation in the delivery of the honours programme in Genetics;
  • Joining a research programme in the Department to contribute to research and postgraduate supervision.

 

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

  • A PhD-degree in Genetics or a closely aligned field;
  • Substantial teaching experience at undergraduate level;
  • Research publications in recognised journals.

 

REQUIRED COMPETENCIES (SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND BEHAVIOURAL ATTRIBUTES):

  • In-depth subject knowledge in Genetics and Molecular Biology;
  • Excellent communication skills and computer literacy;
  • A student-centred mind-set;
  • Excellent organizational skills;
  • Teamwork and good interpersonal skills.

 

ADDED ADVANTAGES AND PREFERENCES:

  • Postdoctoral experience;
  • Mentoring and research training of postgraduate students;
  • Membership/affiliation of national scientific and professional bodies;
  • A driver's licence.

 

The all-inclusive remuneration package for this contract position will be commensurate with the incumbent's level of appointment, as determined by UP policy guidelines.
