Job Details
The Strasbourg astronomical Observatory, France, is seeking a post-doctoral fellow to work on theoretical and observational aspects of pulsar emission mechanisms. The position is funded by the Indo-French Center for the Promotion of Advanced Research (IFCPAR/CEFIPRA) project “Modelling and observing pulsars: from high energy to radio emission”.
Research activities at Strasbourg astronomical Observatory are centred on high energy astrophysics, stellar physics, galactic dynamics and cosmolgy, with faculty members pursuing research in diverse areas of astrophysics (visit http://astro.unistra.fr).
The successful candidate will have the opportunity to make two visits for a period of one month each to NCRA-TIFR, India, for the purpose of project collaboration. Some amount of funding for local travel within France is also available.
The candidate
Must have a PhD degree in astronomy, astrophysics, or a related discipline, or must be awaiting the award of the Ph.D. degree after submitting the doctoral thesis to a university.
A strong background in expertise in numerical and computational aspects of relativistic plasma astrophysics and/or analyzing and interpreting X-ray/gamma-ray observations of pulsars (e.g from instruments like XMM-Newton, Chandra, NuSTAR, Astrosat, Fermi) will be given preference.
Application
Applications containing a curriculum vitae, summary of research experience and the names and e-mail addresses of three or more referees should be sent via the CNRS job portal by December 31, 2018. Applicants should also request their referees to send in recommendation letters by the same deadline to the addresses jerome.petri@astro.unistra.fr and dmitra@ncra.tifr.res.in . All enquiries should be made via the CNRS job portal.
