Opportunity of 36 months of Postdoctoral Fellowship in Nutritional Epidemiology in the Department of Preventive Medicine of the Faculty of Medicine of University of São Paulo (FMUSP), Brazil.


The Department of Preventive Medicine of FMUSP was created in 1967, with the aim to promote and increase knowledge in the field of public health through teaching and research.
The department consists of professors and researchers from various disciplines and areas who are affiliated with or commissioned by FMUSP, as well as scientific initiation fellows, Master's students, PHD students and postdoctoral fellows. The main areas of research include Human and Social Sciences in Health, Epidemiology and Policy, and Health Planning, Management and Evaluation, all of which are considered.

The activities of the postdoctoral fellow (PD) at the Department of Preventive Medicine of FMUSP include the intensive dedication to an individual work plan focusing on the project described below, collaboration with other ongoing projects, participation in regular scientific meetings, publishing of articles and the dissemination of the research at scientific events.

The PD fellowship is provided byão Paulo Research Foundation (FAPESP), as part of the project called "Consumption of ultra-processed foods and indicators of diet quality in Portugal", which will be led by the Department of Preventive Medicine of FMUSP. The overall objective of this project, coordinated by Renata B. Levy, is to analyze the association of the consumption of ultra-processed foods with a broad set of indicators of diet quality, including nutritional profile and food patterns of the population of Portugal.

Selection Criteria 

  • The opportunity is open to Brazilian and foreign candidates with a PhD obtained less than seven years ago in a teaching and research institution in Brazil or abroad. Training in biostatistics and nutritional epidemiology, prior experience in handling and analyzing food consumption databases, the ability to write scientific articles and the command of the English language will be valued.
  • Interested candidates should submit their documentation by November 15, 2018 to denise.cardoso@usp.br. with the subject: BOLSA PD MEDICINA PREVENTIVA / USP. Please, express your motivation and interest in the scholarship in the cover letter. The selection of the candidate will be made based on the analysis of submitted documents and the final interview, which can be carried out via Skype.
  • The selected candidate will receive a scholarship in the amount of R$ 7,373.10 per month. A technical reserve equivalent to 15% of the annual value of the scholarship will also be given to cover expenses directly related to the research activity of the fellow.
