The Department of Ancient Civilisations invites applications for a postdoc position in Latin, tenable for three years from 1 January 2019, in the sub-project on Decimus Magnus Ausonius of the SNSF-funded research project Muse - Musse - Musseraum, led by Prof. Henriette Harich-Schwarzbauer.

Your position

The successful candidate will study the configuration of the poetic œuvre of Decimus Magnus Ausonius at the intersection of discourses of poetic inspiration, otium and poetic space (for further information, see https://latinistik.philhist.unibas.ch/de/forschung/forschungsprojekte/).

They will conduct their research in close collaboration with the associated sub-projects on Sidonius Apollinaris and Aeneas Silvius Piccolomini, and will contribute to the workshops and conferences of the research project.

Your profile

Candidates will hold a PhD in Classics/Latin Literature, and will either have a record of previous research on Late Latin poetry or will be willing to familiarise themselves with the field and develop their research profile accordingly. They will have a profound interest in literary criticism and, specifically, in conceptions of the literary œuvre.

They are expected to collaborate closely with the other members of the project team and to play a positive part in the academic life at the Department of Latin Studies. Proficiency in two of the following languages is required: German, English, French, Italian.
