OBJECTIVES:
This fellowship offered at The Hospital for Sick Children in the sub-specialty of Pediatric Hemostasis and Thrombosis is guided for early career staff in the field or for trainees from Latin America who wish to study and to specialize in Pediatric Hemostasis and Thrombosis. The program aims to promote knowledge and expertise in clinical, coagulation laboratory methods, and to provide an introduction to clinical research in this field. The program will provide training for two years, which will both occur at SickKids in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. Given that the first cycle will only recruit Brazilian candidates, the eligibility criteria for the first round will include, as follows (see below).
ELIGIBILITY:
- Applicants must be a pediatric hematologist with less than five years of completion of clinical sub-specialty training or a Pediatric Hematology-Oncology trainee to complete their Pediatric Hematology-Oncology training by the end of June 2019.
- Applicants must have a Brazilian citizenship.
- Applicants must be able to read, write and speak in English (TOEFL; CAMBRIDGE, CELPIP, IELTS; passing grade of acceptance to be dictated, as per the Post-graduate Medical Office [PMGE] from University of Toronto. For example, for IELTS, a minimum score of 7 is required in each section).
- Applicants must not be employed by a pharmaceutical, biomedical, medical device, or any other for-profit company/organization.
- Applicants must adhere to the conditions, guidelines and reporting requirements of The Hospital for Sick Children.
- Applicants must provide a curriculum vitae (CV) in English encompassing their undergraduate, graduate and post-graduate education, including their previous clinical, laboratory and research experience in the field of Pediatric Thrombosis and Hemostasis. In addition, any ongoing projects including abstracts presented and/or accepted for presentation or publication should be listed. Similarly, presentations at local, provincial, national or international forums should also be numbered.
- Additional degrees obtained during the candidate’s training should be included in the CV.
FUNDING:
The selected fellow will be awarded a salary to support training for two years. The fellowship will occur in full at The Hospital for Sick Children, Toronto, Ontario, Canada. Funding will be provided according to the standard stipend offered to the department subspecialty fellows from the division of Hematology/ Oncology at SickKids. Of note, with this salary, trainees are able to afford accommodation and living expenses during their fellowship period.
